We understand that for some children and young people, accessing traditional school environments can be very difficult, we therefore offer a bespoke Neurodiversity Affirming and Trauma Responsive Alternative Provision with sessions designed for children and young people of all ages, tailoring provision to suit individual need.
At Sense Inclusion, we want to bridge the gap between health and education to ensure each child / young person’s needs are efficiently met to give them the best possible chance at succeeding in education. Our focus is to provide a safe, supporting, and attuned environment where children and young people can develop and thrive at their own pace. We can offer Therapies alongside our alternative provision sessions; and we work with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, tutors and other educational providers as part of bespoke educational packages.
Our approach:
As a Trauma Informed and trauma responsive service, we recognise the impact of negative experiences and early life trauma on a child/young person’s development, anxiety levels and behaviour. Our work involves understanding the child/young person's experiences of their internal world and the environment around them. We seek to build positive relationships with the children and young people we work with, providing them with client-led educational and engagement opportunities which are focused on choice and empowerment.
Our sessions are initially client-led, with an emphasis on:
- Engaging with children and young people at their developmental level and being ‘attuned’ to their needs.
- Making them feel valued, listened to, and understood.
- Providing engaging, therapeutic activities with an element of choice.
- Providing engaging sensorimotor activities using personal interests.
- Providing a safe environment and consistent and trusting boundaries.
- Being ‘present’ allowing children and young people to feel happy and comfortable in our presence, creating trust and mutual respect.
- Consistently using therapeutic communications and the PACE approach to support children and young people to process situations and understand why they experience difficult emotions.
Our Alternative Provision sessions are bespoke to the child / young person and can include:
